Ardent Reel Butter Grease is a heavy, tacky formulation that stays put where it's applied. It doesn't migrate off gear teeth under load, and it doesn't thin out and run in heat the way lighter greases do. On a fishing reel being used hard in summer saltwater conditions, that matters.
Where to use it:
Main gear on baitcasters and spinning reels, pinion gear, worm shaft on levelwind mechanisms, any high-load gear surface where oil or light lubricant won't stay put, and oscillation mechanisms on spinning reels.
What happens when you use the wrong grease:
Generic greases not formulated for fishing reels break down faster in heat and humidity. When grease breaks down it becomes watery, migrates away from gear surfaces, and ends up in places it shouldn't be — including near bearings and drag components. If you've ever opened a reel and found a thin, oily residue in the gear cavity instead of grease, that's what broken-down lubricant looks like.

A note on application: A small amount goes a long way. Apply a thin layer to gear teeth, not a full pack. Excess grease in a gear cavity attracts debris and creates unnecessary drag. Thin and even is correct.
